But I wouldn't say that qualifies as an actual installation. You can move them to the Apps folder, it's a good idea to keep them there to find them more easily. Most apps don't and they can run from anywhere.

Like iTunes, if you close the window, it'll continue to play music in the background.Ģ) There's just one way to install an app, and that's if it's coming with an installer (few apps need this), in case it needs to install components in other places and don't just run from anywhere. But not those that can do stuff in the background. The very few single window apps will close using the traffic lights' x. But if you switch away from that app, it will be closed, because it assumes you don't need it anymore. Closing the last document window won't close the app, because you might want to create or open another document while you're still in the app.

Since Windows copied the Mac, they had to work around it for some details. Much of the interface concepts are there on macOS since day one. The question is why Windows does things differently from macOS. So someone help me out here.ġ) Why does pressing the red cross close some apps and not others?
